Talks by Leading Battlefield and Landscape Archaeologists

Battlefield experts and enthusiasts are working together to investigate the Wars of the Roses Battlefield Site at Mortimer’s Cross Near Kingsland, North Herefordshire

The highly regarded investigating archaeologists, Dr Glenn Foard (battlefield) and Dr Tracey Partida (landscape) will explain what their roles will be and they will outline the activities planned to share their findings with the community. At this meeting we will be asking for two main things:

• Information from the community about the battle: so reported or actual finds; place names; folklore and stories as to where the bodies might be buried. Much of this information may have become badly distorted over the centuries but perhaps one or two snippets may be very valuable and they will all be followed up. • We will be seeking volunteers and the call for these will go out in stages as the project proceeds. Volunteers will be needed for specific tasks such as local document research or chasing local information and also some for fieldwork.

A Battlefield Walk

April 28^th 09.30 for a 10.00 start: A Battlefield Walk in aid of the project begins at the Mortimer’s Cross Inn. For just £20 this all-day event includes morning coffee, an expert narrated guided walk across the possible sites, lunch at the Corners Inn Kingsland and then an arms/armour presentation. This is followed by a tour of battle related medieval Kingsland, returning to the Mortimer’s Cross Inn for tea and cakes at around 4.30. It is always fun.
